‘Reina’ joins Como without a transfer fee

Veteran goalkeeper Pepe Reina has returned to Italy, having signed for Serie A new boys Como on a free transfer. The 41-year-old made 43 appearances for Villarreal over the past two seasons but left the club when his contract expired. Reina

has now joined Como on a one-year deal to help Cesc Fabregas’ side gain promotion back to the Serie A top flight.

“I come to a beautiful project, to a family that is growing and trying to improve every year,” Reina said.

“I am coming back to a league that I know very well and that is very competitive. For me, I want to continue to contribute to the development of the club.”

Reina began his career at Barcelona and made 49 appearances for the club before joining Villarreal in 2002 and then Liverpool.

He made 394 appearances for Anfield during his eight years, winning the FA Cup, League Cup and UEFA Super Cup and winning the Premier League Golden Glove in his first three seasons in England. Reina then had spells at Napoli, Bayern Munich, AC Milan

, Aston Villa and Lazio before returning to Villarreal.
